Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) says having Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) is not enough to effect a change.
The PFN, therefore, has urged its members to join political parties, because their PVC can’t do little.
It said that the absence of Christians in the political space had caused many setbacks, adding that its participation would change the country because next to God’s power was political power.
Speaking in Ibadan at the maiden Femi Emmanuel Lecture, with the theme: “Democracy and Governance in Nigeria: Role of Christians in Politics”, PFN’s National Director of Directorate of Politics and Governance (DPG) Pastor Femi Emmanuel said: “Christians are suffering from the doctrine of ‘politics is a dirty game because someone cannot effect a change in a system you are not involved in.”
Emmanuel, the presiding pastor of Living Spring Chapel International, advised general overseers and bishops in PFN to mandate their members to join DPG structures across the 36 states through their state directors, noting that everyone should support DPG at the grassroots to achieve its aims.
Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House, Lagos, enjoined Christian leaders to leave their interests aside and put the church forward to make an impact.
“Our churches are our structure. There is no political party that has one of the structures we Pentecostals have. Our people at the grassroots should get involved. Make sure the parties you want to join represent the interest and value you stand for,” Ighodalo said.
