Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State yesterday inaugurated the first batch of 100,000 special assistants.
The assistants were recently appointed by the governor to take charge of political units ahead of the 2023 general election in their respective wards.
They were from Rivers West and Rivers Southeast senatorial districts and were inaugurated at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Congratulating them on their privileged appointments, Wike urged them to work among their people and hear their views of his administration, particularly of its programs and policies.
He said that as special assistants, they were to collate those impressions and pass them on as feedback through the 319 Ward and 32 Constituency Liaison Officers recently appointed, who would eventually transmit the same to his office.
Wike added: “Now your own is the most important because you hear directly from the people. You know the feelings of the people about us. You are the one that will come and tell us, ‘look, this is what my people are saying…
“This is a political period, hear from the people. What are they saying? So, you’ll be able to advise the governor, so I will know what decision to take. It is you who will determine what decision the people of Rivers State will take at the end of the day.”
