Wike, Bala Mohammed clash over protracted PDP crisis

Yesterday, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed clashed over the protracted People’s Democratic Party (PDP) crisis.

The PDP chieftains differed on why the leadership conflict assailing the platform has not abated in the last two years.

Mohammed, who frowned at Wike’s appointment as minister by the Tinubu Administration, said he should resign from the PDP with immediate effect.

The governor accused Wike of betraying the party by aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

But Wike berated Mohammed for hypocrisy, recalling that he not only served as FCT minister under the PDP government when he was an All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) senator, but he also later defected to the PDP.

The minister and governor have consistently clashed over the Rivers State crisis, which has defiled solutions.

Wike, former governor of Rivers, had chided the Bauchi governor for taking sides with his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, advising him to purge himself of alleged deceit and greed.

The FCT minister blamed Mohammed and other PDP leaders for poor leadership, which is responsible for the party’s stagnation.

Mohammed said in a statement by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, that Wike is a “transactional politician” whose actions were driven by personal ambition.

He said: “Wike’s antics cannot overshadow Bala Mohammed’s record.

“His outburst is the desperate cry of a man whose political relevance is fading.

“The time for noise-making is over; it is time for governance.

“Let Wike reflect on his conduct and do the honourable thing: resign and align fully with the government he so eagerly serves.

“Until then, his words will remain as hollow as his loyalty.”

However, Wike in a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, described Mohammed as an inconsistent politician masquerading as a purist.

In the statement titled: ‘Bala Mohammed and his masturbation about Wike,’ the minister said he would not be distracted by the antics of the governor.
