The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the party has not given up on the possibility of reconciling with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the four other PDP governors in his camp.
The five governors have distanced themselves from the PDP presidential campaign rallies which were flagged off in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on October 10 and Kaduna on October 17.
As of yesterday, there was no indication that the five governors will attend the PDP presidential rally scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo State on Saturday (today).
However, in an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja on Friday, the spokesman for the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, said reconciliation moves were still ongoing to win back the five aggrieved governors.
Ologunagba said: “There are multiple channels of communication in our constitution. So it is ongoing. We are very hopeful because we have a robust internal differences resolution mechanism.
“We can’t give up on hope because this party is PDP, not an individual party. So we don’t give commands, we don’t give instructions. We negotiate, we discuss and that is ongoing.
“As a party, we are very confident that Governor Wike and other governors or anybody; other members of our party, who have issues are reconciled.
“Of course, what is important and I think that you have to emphasize that irrespective of whether the divide we have right now, or misunderstanding or differences, were all related to one point and that’s critical. The urgency now is the need for us to rescue our country from the rudderless APC.”
