“We will use technology as a weapon to keep Lagos safer” – Lagos deputy governor

Deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has assured residents of the state that the new state government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will use technology as one of the key weapons to keep Lagos safer.

Hamzat made the statement today at the Eko Innovation Centre Moral Leadership programme, a private-sector led initiative that seeks to promote quality leadership in both the public and private sectors in Lagos state and across Nigeria.

He said that across the state government’s development agenda, codenamed THEMES, technology would be deployed to aid solutions in respective areas of development including infrastructure, education, tourism and environment.

Hamzat made specific reference to how technology would be used as one of the weapons to ensure security of lives and property in the state and keep Lagos safer.

“For instance, as we speak, the state government is close to the stage of rolling out smart cameras across the state to ensure that Lagosians continue to live and work in a peaceful and safe environment.

“This camera is part of the latest technology called motion sensitive cameras that are responsive to sudden movement and sound amongst its other innovative and unique features.

“We are very conscious of the primary responsibility of government, which is to ensure the security and welfare of their citizens. All these will be made better in Lagos state with the effective use of technology in governance and by supporting and empowering of technology start-ups and innovation hubs to thrive,” he said.
