Tragic! Girl, 13, to go blind after being hit by pencil in school

A GIRL could be permanently blinded in one eye after she was hit by a pencil thrown during a school lesson.

The girl identified as Sheha now recovering in hospital after undergoing emergency surgery, but the full extent of her injury is still unknown

Her distraught mother, Sanjula, 48, reacting to this said, ” I can’t believe what has happened, it’s so devastating. We don’t know what’s going to happen but she’s likely to lose her vision which is very serious.

She stated that seeing her daughter in such condition is heartbreaking.

She added that “”I’m trying not to think of the worst and just be there for my daughter. That’s all I can do at this stage.”

Speaking on the incident, the school’s headteacher, Catherine Bradshaw, said: “The safety and care of our pupils is a priority and it is upsetting for everyone involved when an accident of this nature occurs.

“I have spoken with her Mum, and as has the head of year and the school will continue to offer both pupil and family support in whichever way possible.”

It is not known if the pencil was deliberately thrown at Sneha or she was caught in the crossfire.

Further tests on the girl’s lens will be carried out but the family face an agonising wait until they know the seriousness of the wounds.
