‘Tourism can boost Nigeria’s IGR’ – Stakeholders

Stakeholders in the tourism sector have said the ministry has the potential to take Nigeria’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to great heights.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Prince Olaniyi Oyatoye, at De Blue Roof, Lagos Television, Ikeja, affirmed this yesterday at the Lagos Asa Day 2021 and launch of the Youth Empowerment Access Centre. The event was held.

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture had partnered with ASA Day Worldwide Inc. Canada, to package and organize the event, themed ‘Let’s use our cultural heritage to revive our economy.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Tourism, Art and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, emphasized his administration’s commitment to promoting and preserving culture and traditions for today and future generations.

According to him, there could not be meaningful development in any society without a deep understanding of the people’s culture and traditions. He said huge revenue could be generated from art and culture if well harnessed.

President and convener of ASA Day Worldwide, Prince Oyatoye, called for further collaboration between government and private organizations so the benefits in the industry could be exploited.

He also said Lagos “can multiply its IGR through tourism’ as the state was endowed with both natural and human resources.

Nollywood actors Prince Jide Kosoko, Muka Ray, Yinka Quadri, praised the organizers for the initiative, saying the government stands to gain a lot if it invests in the industry.
