The Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, has urged Nigerians to work harmoniously for the success of the 2023 digital census.
Mustapha said this while declaring open a retreat on Review of Trial Census for 2023 Population and Housing Census in Abuja.
He urged the three tiers of government to support the National Population Commission (NPC), saying the nation needed to have a credible and acceptable census.
Mustapha recalled credibility and acceptability as two main determinants of the census, stressing that these could only be achieved with synergy among all stakeholders.
The SGF applauded the NPC for its commitment to delivering a credible and accurate census.
He said the retreat was a demonstration of the commission’s commitment to self-evaluation and the need to prepare well for a credible and acceptable census.
“There is no doubting the fact that any organization that is desirous of achieving its set mandate must constantly embark on self-evaluation to critically review its progress or otherwise. With a huge national assignment, such as the forthcoming population and housing census, this retreat couldn’t have come at a better time than now as the commission earnestly prepares for the conduct of the 2023 population and housing census.
“Given its potential to engender a deeper understanding of the population dynamics in the next few decades, the forthcoming Nigerian population and housing census must be seen as a defining national and global agenda, hence all stakeholders must bring to bear their experiences to deliver on the constitutional mandate of the commission by thoroughly reviewing the trial census to come up with veritable contributions that will deepen the census-taking process,” Mustapha said.
