Senator Kashamu, 62, dies of COVID-19 complications

Senator Buruji Kashamu has died of complications from Covid-19, joining a list of prominent Nigerians to fall casualty to the disease.

Kashamu, 62, died at First Cardiologist Consultants in Lagos on Saturday. News of his death was broken by his close friend and associate, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce.

Murray-Bruce, writing on Twitter said: “I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19. Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos; May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss.”

Kashamu represented Ogun East in the 8th Senate and was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election.

COVID 19 had earlier killed Mallam Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, and Abiola Ajimobi, former Governor of Oyo State.

He will be laid to rest at 12noon today in his hometown, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
