Rep secures N6b for Gbaji-Apa-Owode Road

The lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency, Mr Sesi Whingan, has gotten a N6 Billion budgetary allocation for the reconstruction of the long-neglected Gbaji-Apa-Owode Road in the 2025 budget.

Whingan, the chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), made this known in a statement issued through his media team.

He said the 30.6 km federal road, which connected Gbaji through Apa to Owode—a critical border point between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin—had been in a state of disrepair for over a decade.

“While reconstruction efforts had begun, progress was hindered by inadequate budgetary provisions.

“Reports suggest that the highest previous allocation for the project was a mere N200 million, an amount that restricted the pace of work.

“With the newly secured N6billion allocation, reconstruction is expected to gain substantial momentum, bringing long-awaited relief to residents, traders and motorists, who have endured years of hardship due to the road’s deplorable condition,” Whingan said.

The lawmaker recalled his remarks during a stakeholders’ engagement at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos last September, where he assured constituents of his push for a substantial budgetary allocation.

He said: “Beyond securing funding, I have also been facilitating the road’s redesign to ensure it meets modern construction standards and serves the needs of the people.

“This road is a vital economic artery, not just for Badagry, but also for Nigeria as a whole, given its role in cross-border trade.”
