Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Asuquo Amba, on Thursday, raised the alarm over the influx of operators of commercial bikes popularly known as Okada in the state.
Amba suspected the purported Okada operators to be criminals who could unleash unwholesome acts and intentions on the state in view of their capability to “cause criminal act ranging from stealing, armed robbery, and kidnapping in no distant time”.
The police commissioner, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Sunday Abutu, stated, “These suspected persons, in their multitude, are in the state with motorcycles, pretending to be commercial motorcyclists popularly called Okada.
Abutu stated, “CP Asuquo has directed that all motorcycles across the state must be properly registered with the relevant authorities and relevant document of ownership/registration.”
The police boss, who cautioned Okada operators against perpetrating criminal acts as any crime attracted arrest and prosecution, implored all the good citizens of Ekiti State “to promptly report to the nearest Police station or call the Police Control Room on 08062335577 whenever they see any person or group of persons suspected to be criminals around their environs.
“Landlords and caretakers are also advised to know the proper identities of their present and future tenants to avoid harboring criminals.
“The command solicits the supports and cooperation of the public and wish to assure the good people of Ekiti State of firm commitment to sustain the fight against crimes and criminality which has brought about the peace currently being enjoyed by the state,” the statement added
