The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria, has set up a committee to probe allegations of ticket racketeering in the corporation’s Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS).
The committee headed by the Deputy Director (ICT) Mr. Raphael Odang, is also to resolve difficulties in obtaining online tickets on the route, which resulted in the alleged ticket racketeering on the route.
The NRC chief directed the Director of Operation Mr. Akin Osinowo, to increase the frequency of train operation on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor in the next two weeks to accommodate the surge in the demand for train service on the route.
He also approved the redeployment of Mr. Mohammed Modibo Ibrahim as the new AKTS Manager. Ibrahim, whose redeployment takes immediate effect, was formerly the Enugu Station Manager. He is to lead the reorganisation of the Abuja Station and checkmate touts in the nation’s second standard gauge asset.
In a statement by NRC’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, Yakub Mahmood, the managing director pleaded with the passengers to bear with the corporation.
He assured them that the situation was being brought under control.
“We assure the general public, especially our esteemed passengers, to bear with us as we are taking every possible step to bring the situation under control,” the statement added.
