NPA to conduct integrity test on building

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says it will begin integrity test on its corporate headquarters building Marina, Lagos after it was razed by an inferno.

The building was one of government owned properties attacked by hoodlums during the recent EndSARS protest.

Its Managing Director, Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman, announced this in an interview with reporters on the scene of the incident.

She explained that the move was meant to confirm if the building is still habitable or not, and to prevent further disasters.

The result of the test, Ms. Usman said, would determine the government’s next line of action, adding that the Federal Government remained passionate about the safety of the citizens, workers, operators and the authority’s customers.

A senior official of the agency, who spoke in confidence, told The Nation that the stability of the building would be carried out either by the Federal Government or the Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory.

“If any section of the building fails the integrity test, it would be pulled down to further reduce chances of disasters of such great magnitude in the country,” the official said.
