The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) FCT Chapter has warned the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) against carrying out its eviction notice on NISA Premier.
The chapter says nearly 1,000 doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers may lose their jobs if the eviction is conducted.
NISA Premier, who is the current manager of Garki Hospital, Abuja, signed a 15-years concession agreement of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement with the FCTA in 2007.
Yet, the FCT Administration on March 1, 2022, gave the hospital management notice to vacate and hand over the facility to them on April 1, 2022.
Checkout Magazine reports that nearly 1,000 workers, including 21 consultants, 113 medical doctors, 24 House Officers, 159 nurses, 96 patient care attendants, pharmacists, medical record officers, laboratory scientists, and other technicians, currently work at the hospital.
The NMA has urged the FCTA to extend the period of disengagement of the NISA Group from Garki Hospital Abuja to allow for a more effective, smooth, and humane transition.
According to a communique from the Ordinary General Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association, FCT, the Chairman, Dr Enema Amodu, reads partly: “On the abrupt termination of the public-private partnership arrangement between the NISA medical groups and Federal Capital Territory administration, of Garki Hospital, the NMA FCT totally and completely rejects the position of the FCTA.
“This move will lead to a sudden loss of jobs of close to 1,000 workers which include medical doctors, nurses and other workers that have over time contributed to the enviable and successful standard of healthcare provided by Garki Hospital, Abuja, which has helped in maintaining the enviable health narrative in the FCT, amongst the committee of states within the country.”
