In the early hours of yesterday, four floors of the popular 10-storey Mandilas building on Broad Street, Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State, were torched.
Properties worth millions of naira were burnt before men of the Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Police, and other emergency responders raced to the scene.
Director of the Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the inferno started on the first floor and spread to the fourth floor of the 49-year-old building.
She said officers of the fire service from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations stopped the fire from reaching other floors.
Adeseye added that no life was lost to the inferno whose cause is unknown.
An update shared by Jubril Gawat, senior special assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on his “X” handle reads: “The Big Boy is here …. Mandilas Building Broad Street, Lagos Island. The first responders are attacking the fire from the front and from the back.”
