A special adviser to the President has attributed the arrest of Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, EFCC, to an alleged power play between Mr Magu and a power bloc led by the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Femi Odekunle, a professor and member of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, said this in a statement on Monday evening.
Mr Magu was on Monday arrested in front of the EFCC office in Abuja by security officials, he was thereafter taken to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he was to appear before a presidential panel investigating alleged corruption and insurbordination.
It was learnt that the Attorney-General of the Federation. Abubakar Malami accused Mr Magu of insubordination and re-looting of recovered funds.
“The alleged originating Malami memo, up to the current “arrest “ seems an outcome of power-play by power blocs in the corridors of power in which Malami appears to be an arrow-head or major agent of a power bloc that is not really interested in, or in support of, Buhari’s anti-corruption fight,” the professor said.
Mr Odekunle said he released the statement after consultation with other members of the PACAC including its chairman, Itse Sagay.
“It may not be contestable that Malami has been exploiting his alleged loyalty and closeness to the President for his personal /power bloc agenda,” the don said.
