The Lagos state government has extended its sensitization program on registration and collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to state-owned universities.
At the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, and Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Ijanikin, the Special Adviser (Education) to the Lagos State Governor, Tokunbo Wahab, stressed the need for more student participation in the electoral process and nation-building
Wahab enjoined the students to join hands with the government in building a new Nigeria, stressing that registration and collection of PVC is a guaranteed license for participating in the electoral process.
According to him, since youths and students represent about 53.5 percent of the total population of the country, ‘there is the need to carry them along and give them adequate orientation and enlightenment on leadership.’
He also mentioned the need to participate in the electoral process towards choosing a God-fearing leader who is committed to infrastructure development and good governance.
Wahab, who commended both institutions for maintaining peace, said the government will not relent in implementing policies that would prioritize the welfare of staff and students in all its institutions.
The special adviser particularly admonished the students to take advantage of the registration centers brought to their campuses to register and collect their PVCs as ‘it is the major weapon with which they can fight hunger and poverty, as well as sustain good governance
