The Lagos State Government and the parties in the Magodo/Shangisha land dispute have reached an amicable resolution.
Under the treaty, the state will provide 549 plots within Shangisha to the affected stakeholders as directed by the Supreme Court about 10 years ago.
But in the event of a shortfall in the area, the government, in agreement with the parties, will provide “alternative plots of land.”
Magodo is within the Shangisha area of Lagos state.
The agreement was reached yesterday at a meeting attended by some top officials of the state, Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu, policemen from the Force Headquarters, Abuja and Federal Capital Territory, the judgment creditors (Shangisha Landlords’ Association), their lawyers as well as the executive and trustees of the Magodo Residents’ Association.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who presided over the parley, told reporters that his administration was determined to ensure fairness, justice, transparency, and equity in the dispute.
He said the committee set up by the government would begin work soon to identify available plots in Shangisha for allocation to the judgment creditors and other affected parties.
