Lagos rolls out 40,000 bins to clear waste

Lagos State Government has launched the ‘Adopt a Bin’ initiative by providing 40,000 smart waste bins to promote a healthy environment.

Represented by Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu urged residents, markets, schools, hospitals, among others, to achieve a clean city space and sustainable environment.

He said their roles include “ prompt payment of waste bills to PSP operators, for them to stay in business.”

Sanwo-Olu encouraged corporate bodies to adopt low-income communities so the initiative could spread across the metropolis.

“You have made similar purposeful engagements in the past, and we trust that you can replicate it in this instance,” he noted.

“These are not ordinary bins, but smart ones built to last and by internationally-recognised quality standards. They are fitted with intelligent devices. These unique devices make it possible to register every single bin to individual addresses, for easy communication on issues relating to them,” he added.
