The Federal Government has ordered officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) that anyone found attempting to attack prison facilities across the country should be shot dead.
It said anyone who attempts to attack a correctional facility should pay the price, not get the kid-gloves treatment that would enable them to tell the story later.
Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola gave the directive yesterday while addressing senior officers at the Agodi Custodial Centre of the NCOs in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, during an official inspection of the facility.
“The most important thing is the security impregnability of this facility. This is a red zone, a dangerous zone. Whoever attempts to breach the facility is already dead. He must not live to tell the story.
“Any effort to breach our facility is not acceptable. Don’t shoot to injure but shoot to kill for any reason.
“This is a total embodiment of the state to guarantee the security of the people,” Aregbesola said.
The minister assured the officers that the Federal Government would prioritize their welfare to ensure effective service delivery.
