Nigeria’s first cyclist at the Olympics, Ese Ukpeseraye has hailed her maiden appearance.
Ukpeseraye became the first Nigerian to feature in an Olympic games after feature in both road cycling and track cycling.
She was the only African athlete out of 30 Cyclists who competed in the track cycling.
She did not finish her event during the road cycling and finished sixth at heat of track cycling.
Ese Ukpeseraye wrote this on her X handle after the track cycling event.
“l came, saw and tried.”
The 25-year-old track cyclist, is Nigeria’s leading female cyclist and a national sports festival champion; qualified for the Olympics by excelling in three separate cycling events, including a road race and two track cycling competitions.
Her qualification came after a stellar performance at the 19th Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Road Championships in Accra, Ghana, where she earned 250 points and won the gold medal in the Elite Women’s Road Race.
She has competed in several high-profile competitions, including the 2021 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and the 2021 Africa Track Cycling Championship, where she won multiple national titles.
