FG suspends enforcement of $300 helicopter landing levy

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the collection of helicopter landing levy at aerodromes, helipads, and airstrips.

The decision was made after a meeting with the executives of Airline Operators of Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Head of Press, Odutayo Oluseyi, on Friday.

It stated that the suspension of the collection of the helicopter levy took effect from May 30, 2024.

The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development mandated helicopter operators to pay a new $300 landing charge, which was to be collected by NAEBI Dynamic Concept Limited on behalf of the Federal Government.

Consequently, petroleum labour unions raised concerns that the levy may disrupt the operations of the oil and gas industry.

So, Keyamo formed a committee composed of members from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and its relevant agencies, Airline Operators of Nigeria, International Oil Companies, and Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd.

He tasked the committee to address concerns raised by stakeholders and is to submit a report by the end of June.
