A group under the aegis of Concerned Citizen Movement for a Better Nigeria, has charged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to dissociate himself from groups championing his presidential ambition.
The group urged Emefiele to avoid distractions and discourage his friends from pushing the 2023 political agenda.
It noted that it is alarming for his friends and associates to cajole him into contesting the 2023 presidential election, while he is occupying a sensitive post, which is key to the nation’s economic stability.
The group’s National President Moses Sambo, in a statement, said if Emefiele had presidential ambition, he should resign as governor of CBN.
Sambo also said his friends should be more concerned about Emefiele stabilising the economy.
His words: “As a group, we frown at this and we are calling on the CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele to dissociate himself from those sponsored presidential campaigns projecting him to contest in 2023.
“I strongly believe that Emefiele must perform as the CBN governor, and President Muhammadu Buhari has given him the mandate to stabilise the economy, which he must focus on and avoid the distractions from friends and associates who are pushing him to contest the 2023 general election.
“It is disturbing to see a situation where a Central Bank governor will be having the ambition to become the president while he must stabilise the economy”.
