Senator Elisha Abbo, arraigned on one count of assault, has pleaded not guilty and subsequently been granted 5 million naira bail by the court.
He was arraigned on Monday by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police at Zuba Magistrate Court, Abuja.
The senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District had earlier apologised to Nigerians, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and women in general, following a viral video in which he was seen physically assaulting a lady.
The shocking public behaviour of the senator has sparked social media storm and provoked strong reactions from many Nigerians, most of whom suggested that his apology should be rejected and that it should be charged to court.
