The Auditor General of the Federation (AuGF) has implored the Federal Government to reclaim the sum of N3.743 billion and U.S$71,223.23 from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
According to the AuGF, the debt is outstanding money the NCAA allegedly failed to remit to the government treasury.
The request is contained in the “Auditor-General for the Federation annual report on non-compliance/internal control weaknesses issues in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government of Nigeria for the year ended December 31, 2019”.
The report addressed to the Clerk to the National Assembly and dated September 15, 2021, was signed by AuGF Adolphus Aghughu.
Part of the statement reads that “The authority (NCAA) generated N18,339,549,000.00 as IGR in 2018.
Twenty-five percent of the IGR, which amounted to N4,584,887,250, was to be remitted, but N1,600,000,000.00 was remitted, thereby resulting in under-remittance of N2,984,887,250.00,” among others.
The report attributed the action to weaknesses in the internal control system at the NCAA, which the AuGF said led to a possible loss of government revenue and difficulty in funding the annual budget.
The AuGF said the agency’s Director-General should be made to account for the said money and should be remitted to the Federal treasury with the evidence presented to the Public Account Committee of the National Assembly.
