Four gold medalists at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games football squad, have appealed to the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to also give them apartments at the new Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate in Igbogbo, Ikorodu.
This comes after Governor Sanwo-Olu rewarded Pascal Patrick, an alternate member of the team at the Games with a three-bedroom apartment in the estate while hosting the Eagles at the Lagos State House, Marina prior to their recent AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic.
The entire squad was promised house gifts by the government after their triumph 25 years ago, but some of the players and their coach Jo Bonfrere are yet to get theirs.
Dosu Joseph, who was in goal for the team at Atlanta, thanked Sanwo-Olu for his magnanimity, and appealed to the governor to consider other members of the team.
“The governor did well to give Pascal a house in Lagos,” Dosu told The PUNCH.
“But I want to appeal to him to consider other members of the squad for an apartment in Ikorodu as well.”
Former Super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh, said, “It’s a good gesture from the Governor of Lagos State to reward my former teammate, Pascal, but it will be awesome to reward all the members of the team who made history for the country 25 years ago.”
Emmanuel Amuneke, who scored the winner in the final as Nigeria came from behind to beat Argentina 3-2, said, “Collectively the team needs to be rewarded the same way. So, if one player gets a gift, every member of the team should also get.”
