The Lagos State Agro-Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) project has created 12,350 jobs and empowered 17,469 direct and indirect beneficiaries.
This number spans across its three value-chains of aquaculture, poultry and rice production.
According to the Production Output Survey validated by the Lagos State Bureau of Statistics (LBS), the project also contributed N333.9 million (0.07 per cent) to the state GDP through the 924 farmers supported in 2020.
APPEALS is a World-Bank supported project to enhance the productivity of small and medium-scale farmers, and improve value addition along priority value chains in the state. It is being implemented in six states.
State Coordinator of the APPEALS Project Mrs Oluranti Sagoe-Oviebo stated this during a media parley at the Project’s Coordinating Office in Oko-Oba, Agege.
According to her, about N199 million worth of products in the aquaculture, poultry and rice value chains have been sold by women and youth since receiving grants from the project. Of the 3,950 beneficiaries, 44.14 percent are females.
She added: “The project has continued to promote productivity enhancement technologies and value addition through the demonstration of improved technologies. These have directly impacted the Project Development Objective. Most of these were confirmed through administrative data.”
