Africa needs data protections for economy growth, says Pantami

Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami says African countries need to prioritize building data protections standard across their borders to enhance digital economic growth.

Dr Pantami made his remarks at the inaugural virtual Africa Data Protection Conclave, where he noted that the National Digital Economy Policy Strategy in Nigeria rests on developmental regulation, digital skills, solid infrastructure, service infrastructure, digital services, soft infrastructure, digital society, emerging technologies, indigenous content creation and promotion.

He also observed that African nations must ensure that in the process of building the digital economy, steps must be taken to ensure there are no data breaches in any way.

“We need to ensure that nations build their data infrastructure, mining and security to the highest level because this will be the industry of the future to generate economic growth and build wealth,” he said.
