AFCON: FIFA agent seeks endorsement for Eagles players

A FIFA-licensed agent, Dr Drew Uyi, has challenged brands in Nigeria to give Super Eagles players endorsement deals before the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), in Cote d’Ivoire.

The 34th edition of AFCON, which is the biggest football fiesta in Africa, kicks off on January 13.

It presents brands in Nigeria and across the continent, with uncommon opportunities to be at the centre of attraction, alongside the competition and the key actors—the players, as they prepare to take the centre stage.

With football holding a special place in the hearts and minds of millions of Nigerians, brands should naturally jump at the chance of storytelling about their products through Eagles players who will represent the country at one of the most glamorous football events in the world.

The AFCON at the moment stands as the greatest brand in Africa, one that all other brands can flex their touch points around, by telling their stories through the eyes of the footballers. In other words, it could offer brands the right moment to comprehensively rebrand.

Drew Uyi, a branding guru holds a degree in Events and Sports Management from The London Metropolitan University. He brags of vast experience in developing and implementing strategies, to increase brand awareness, engagement, and marketing.

The expert has worked with several international brands promoting Nigerian athletes across the years, helping both to benefit from each other’s values and commercial tendencies.

“It is important for brands to start endorsing the players of the Nigerian national team now before the tournament kicks off. These brands can also do things during the AFCON tournament in order to create more visibility and grow their brands. AFCON in Ivory Coast is going to be the biggest crowd puller of the year in Africa and a melting pot for brands to maximize and grow their profit”, said Drew Uyi.
