President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Remi Tinubu, and former President Muhammadu Buhari have advised Nigerians to always keep a distance from scenes of accidents involving trucks laden with inflammable products.
Some others also suggested ways to avert tanker explosions in the community yesterday.
They were the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF), Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Abubakar III; House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen; All Progressives Congress(APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and the Dapo Abiodun-led Southern Governors’ Forum(SGF).
The President, who ordered a comprehensive treatment of survivors, said the explosion was sad but preventable.
In separate statements, they all expressed sadness over Saturday’s tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Suleja, Niger State.
They expressed their condolences to the families of the victims, the government and the people of the state.
Bodies of 80 victims of the accident were buried yesterday in a mass grave in Dikko.
The bodies of five other victims were received for burial by their families.
The Injured victims were yesterday afternoon transferred from the Suleja General Hospital to tertiary health facilities in compliance with the President’s directive that they be given immediate comprehensive medical care.
The President, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also instructed security and road safety authorities to implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Tinubu described the tanker explosion as preventable and heartbreaking.
