FG seeks more donations for flood victims

The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to support those affected by the flood incidents in some states of the country.

Reports show that so far, over 612 lives have been lost and over a 3.2millon affected by floods this year.

The government acknowledged that it has received donations from individuals, and international and national organizations, and said it needed more donations to meet the demands of those affected across the federation.

This was disclosed in Abuja on Saturday by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq when she received a donation of 1,000 packs of relief items from The Care Pack Family (TCPF).

The Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo said: “You are stepping in at the right moment with the right support. These products that are 100 percent made in Nigeria will boost patronage amongst ourselves and reduce the cost of feeding.

“I want to call all Nigerians to emulate this gesture. Donations are coming from development partners, national and international NGOs, individuals, and the presidential committee headed by Aliko Dangote, we receive directly and also through the states but we still need more.

“There is a lot more to do. The flood is still in evolution, it has not ended yet and in its wake, the impact will continue to unfold. So, while we are seeing the end of the flood coming in sight, we know it is still evolving and we know after that, there will be complications this is the right time to prepare and we are prepared to do our best.

“Government is expected to do everything but the government cannot do everything, so we need the support and we will continue to appreciate inputs.”
