The Lagos State Government is advancing an action plan to end gender-based violence in the state.
Executive Secretary of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said this during a campaign in Katawa Market at Agbado in Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.
She said the government would address gaps to end gender-based violence, including awareness of child sexual exploitation and harassment and promotion of security of the person.
In her statement, the government regards the safety of women and girls as a priority, and violence against them is unacceptable and preventable.
Between May 2019 to August 2021, she said, 4,150 cases of domestic violence were reported.
She commented that effort has to be invested to improve response to domestic abuse and strengthen protection for victims while ensuring perpetrators are prosecuted.
Iyaloja General of Agbado, Mrs. Funmi George, remarked that the action will support an environment where people are safe and free from physical, emotional and sexual violence, discrimination, as well as harassment.
