Governors and eminent Nigerians shared messages of hope in Abuja and across the country yesterday in celebration of June 12.
Yesterday was the fourth anniversary of the declaration of Democracy Day arising from the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election won by billionaire businessman Moshood Kashimawo Abiola.
Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) Hope Uzodimma (Imo), and Babagana Zulum (Borno), yesterday called on Nigerians to draw strength from the 1993 general elections and make the next year’s polls better.
They also challenged the electorate to see June 12 Democratic Day as a symbol of unity, hope, better conditions of living, and true democracy.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu noted that Nigeria was on the path to greatness.
He however enjoined Nigerians to unite to ‘correct the imperfections yet to be addressed to make the system of government worthwhile’.
The other governors who sent goodwill messages to mark the day were Charles Soludo (Anambra), Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara) Muhammadu Yahaya (Gombe), Douye Diri (Bayelsa) Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi).
