FEC approves N58.427b for roads, agric projects

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N58.427 billion for road and agricultural emergency intervention projects.

Works and Housing Minister Babatunde Fashola (SAN) addressed State House correspondents after the weekly virtual FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Fashola said his ministry obtained an approval for a contract worth N56.175 billion.

He said the approval was for the termination and re-awarding of the 49-kilometre section of Abaji-Koton Karfe Road, which is part of the Abuja-Lokoja highway, to Messers Galt.

The minister said the Council also approved the revision of the contract for Afo-Apoto-Oyo boundary road in Kwara State by N251,530,000 – from N3,060,000,000 to N3,311,000,000.

According to him, this is to enable the contractor to make provision for drains, replace unsuitable materials and reconstruct damaged shoulders of the road, as well as accommodate some variation in price.

“The ministry of works and housing submitted two memoranda. The first was for the termination and re-award of the 49 kilometres section of Abaji to Koton Karfe, which is part of the Abuja-Lokoja highway. It was awarded in favour or Messrs Galt for N56.175 billion.

“Hopefully, this should facilitate the completion of that critical highway, which started in 2006.

“The second memorandum was for the revision of the contract for the Apoto-Alfa/Oyo boundary road in Kwara State. The revision was by N251,530,000, which revised the contract sum from N3,060,000,000 to N3,311,000,000,” he said.
