FG to meet ASUU over strike today

The Federal Government has said it will meet with leaders of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) over the one-month warning strike embarked on by its members.

Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr Charles Akpan, published this in a statement yesterday in Abuja.

Akpan said the Labour and Employment Minister, Chris Ngige will meet with the executives of the union and other relevant government agencies.

“The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday (today) by 1 p.m in the minister’s conference room,” the statement said.

Recall that the striking lecturers had embarked on a four-week roll-over total and comprehensive strike on February 14, to press home their demands.

Also, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has threatened to block Federal roads nationwide over the ongoing ASUU strike.

NANS National President Sunday Asefon announced this in a statement yesterday in Abuja.
