COVID Vaccine: Only five per cent vaccinated in Southeast

The Federal Government has condemned the low rates of COVID-19 vaccination in states in the South-East zone, as only five (5) per cent of the population have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccines.

However, it noted that Southwest states have vaccinated the most eligible population against the deadly pandemic in the country.

According to data from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), as of January 28, 2022, 14,723,661 of total eligible persons targeted for COVID-19 vaccination were reached with the first dose, while 5,427,617 were reached with the second dose (fully vaccinated).

In total, 20,151,278 have received at least one dose of COVID-19 Vaccines.

According to the NPHCDA, “Six in every ten eligible population in Nasarawa State have taken at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“At least half of the population who took the first dose have taken the second dose in Delta, FCT, Lagos and Ekiti states.

“Across the country, an average of 200,000 persons are vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccines daily. In the last 10 days, Adamawa and Yobe made the greatest move.

“South-East states have the lowest uptake, as only 5 per cent of their eligible population are vaccinated with the first dose. South-West states have the highest uptake. Nearly 20 per cent of their eligible population have received their first dose.”
