Postmaster-General decries 28 years of paucity of funds at NIPOST

The Postmaster General (PMG) of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), Dr. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi, has said the dilapidated state of post offices across the country is due to the neglect of the agency for 28 years.

Adewusi said NIPOST had not received capital funding for the rehabilitation and upgrade of post offices since 1992.

He emphasized that to save the situation, the new NIPOST Property Company would take over the facilities across the country.

The PMG praised President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, for supporting NIPOST, and initiating some of the reforms in the organisation.

Adewusi made this statement while addressing reporters in Abuja as part of activities marking his two years in office and celebration of the Pan-African Postal Union Day (PAPU).

Besides transforming some post offices into smart post offices, Adewusi said within the period in review, the African Development Bank (AfDB) partnered his agency over its agricultural programme with a view to using its facilities.
