The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) has sued for peace and security in the country.
The group condemned the spate of killings and kidnapping in the country, adding that it has gotten to the point that women need to come out and cry for peace, since they are the most affected.
National President NCWS, Dr. Gloria Shoda who made the call stressed the need for Nigerians to pray for the country to overcome the current challenges bedeviling the country.
She made the call in Abuja at the end of a three days programme organised by the NCWS which ended with a peace walk around Abuja themed ‘One Day Nigerian Women Arise Peace Walk and Prayers.’ “What about our children? They will be divided.
She said, “ In as much as we are tired of seeing and hearing of kidnapping, robbery, killing and vandalism, we want peace in Nigeria. We want one Nigeria to remain for sustainable unity in our country and that is why we are having peace walk today. Not only prayer will solve the problem; we are also appealing to government to try and get youths employed, as lot of them are out there looking for what to do. As you know an idle mind is devil’s workshop.
“When they are restless, anything can happen. So I want government to try and provide employment for the youths. If they are gainfully employed there will be less insecurity.” The council noted that part of the purpose of the event was to strengthen the love and unity among Nigerians, especially for the sake of the women and children. The women prayed for stoppage of killings, kidnappers, disunity and banditry among Nigerians, as the president observed that without peace there would be no development in the country.
