The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), has disclosed plans by the agency to establish six standard rehabilitation centres, one in each geo-political zone of Nigeria.
According to him, the plan was part of efforts to treat the high number of persons suffering from drug addiction in the country.
Marwa, according to a statement on Wednesday by the spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, spoke in Abuja as a special guest of honour at the fifth Biennial National Symposium on Drugs and Drug Policy in Nigeria, organised by the Centre for Research and Information on Substance Abuse.
He said, “Substance use and abuse around the world, including Nigeria, is on the increase.
He pointed out that reducing the demand for illicit drugs in society would depend on the successful treatment of existing drug users.
