Lagos Trains Newly-Promoted 196 principals, VPs

Lagos State Government has trained 100 vice-principals recently elevated to principals and 96 teachers now vice-principals enable them to play their roles effectively.

The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) trained the teachers at the Ostral Hall, Ikeja, on school leadership and organisational skills.

Chairman of TESCOM, Mrs. Elizabeth Ariyo said the participants merited the promotions and they should not disappoint as their performance would be evidence that their selection was not a fluke.

“To these few that have distinguished themselves and scaled the ‘rigorous’ hurdle during the process of tests and assessments, I congratulate you and am quick to tell you that the result for hard work is more work. A big task has been bestowed on you and you have the responsibility to brace up to the challenge and prove your mettle. Your performance on the job should assure the state government and indeed, Mr. Governor, that in truth you are deserving of this elevation,” she said.

Mrs. Ariyo said the induction and training for the principals, the second by the commission since it was introduced in 2019, would be a continuous exercise for new principals and vice principals.

The Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Mrs. Toyin Machado-Onanuga said the two-day training would equip the school managers with skills to influence change.

“The objective of the programme is not just to help you develop the right leadership skills, but also to improve your ability to influence change and inspire confidence in your respective teams. Most importantly, it is to trigger in you, the necessary mindset shift to adjust to a changing environment,” she said.
