Netherland to partner Lagos in solving traffic

The Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, Mr Jan Van Weijen, has asked the Lagos State Government to study how his country used its waterways to resolve its transport challenges.

Speaking on Monday, during a visit to the Lagos House, Ikeja, Weijen said the Netherlands would partner the state government for a mutually beneficial relationship.

The envoy said, the visit was to inform the governor of the upcoming visit of the Netherlands Prime Minister to Nigeria in November for a bilateral meeting.

Van Weijen said it was necessary to meet the Lagos governor ahead to discuss cooperation between the Netherlands and Lagos in areas of mutual interests, including inland waterway administration, intermodal transportation and efficient public health services.

Earlier, Sanwo-Olu had mooted a partnership with the Dutch country, saying Lagos shared common realities with Amsterdam – the Netherlands’ most populous city and capital.

Like Amsterdam, the governor said Lagos is five meters above sea level, noting that the state had started studying the model used by the Netherlands to bring about a solution to transportation on its waterways.

He said his government was looking forward to activating collaborations that could bring about foreign direct investment in Lagos to boost capacity of transportation in the state.
