The All Progressives Congress (APC) has zoned the National Working Committee (NWC) offices after two high-level meetings within 48 hours.
The party adopted the consensus option to pick its national chairman and other officers at its March 26 convention in Abuja.
The swapping of all offices in the South for North and vice versa gives the Southern part and advantage of getting the party’s presidential ticket for 2023.
The North will have the Chairman position as the last occupant is former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Speaking to reporters after the governors met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai said:
“We have agreed on a zoning formula for all the six geopolitical zones and essentially, northern zones will take positions that southern zones had in the last eight years and vice versa – very simple, equitable and fair formula.
“We will now go back and consult at the zonal level, and look at the positions that are available and the process of the convention preparation will start in earnest.”
The governors had met on Monday night to fine-tune the zoning proposal which was presented to President Buhari at yesterday’s meeting.
